The Greater Phoenix Economic Council, Maricopa County and several cities are teaming to recast the Phoenix area's image in a much greener hue.
Launching the Greening Greater Phoenix initiative, sponsored by area newcomer SolarCity, GPEC is looking to heighten the case for sustainability as a way of life and a way for the region to attract business in related industries, particularly solar power.
Barry Broome, president and CEO of GPEC, has worked to position solar as a leading industry for Arizona, and Wednesday was flanked by officials from Surprise, Scottsdale, Phoenix and the county in an attempt to usher in more cooperation to push solar as an economic development force in the state.
The economic push has a wide scope, from solar power giants in Germany and Spain to companies in California that can easily set up shop in Phoenix, Broome said
