Legends Rock, a granite and bronze monument, is inscribed with the words 'pride,' 'team,' 'commitment,' and 'honor.' The top of the sculpture is bronze, which players will touch on their way to Honaker Field.
'By touching it, these players will be promising to give it everything they have for Maryville College that day,' Tony Lerulli, Maryville College Head Football Coach said. 'And this will honor all fighting Scots...Legends Rock is something all players can claim. I imagine it building a sense of pride and something that connects a player from the 1950s to the program today.'
The monument was funded from money donated in memory of Assistant Coach Cody Bowers, who was also a former player and MC alumnus.
Legends Rock will be a symbol 'to honor all fighting Scots- past, present, and future,' said Diana Canacaris, assistant director of stewardship, who helped design the statue-like monument.
Several former players participated in the unveiling ceremony to bring together past and present programs.
